Golfing Paradise

The news of the first golf course at Punta Perla follows the signing of an agreement between the developers of the resort, Paraiso Tropical, Worldwide Destinations, Colin Montgomerie and European Golf Design which will create the golf course. It was signed in the presence of the President of the Dominican Republic, Dr Leonel Fernandez Reyna, during the first state visit to the UK by a President of the country at the invitation of Her Majesty the Queen.

Berkshire-based European Golf Design, which was established in 1992 as a joint venture between the European Tour and IMG to provide a golf course design service, has produced successful resort, members’ and tournament courses around the world. Commenting on the plans for the Dominican Republic’s newest resort, Colin Montgomerie said: “I am thrilled to be so closely involved in the design of the first golf course at Punta Perla.

“I select the locations for golf courses which carry my name very carefully indeed, but Punta Perla was an easy choice. This is a stunningly beautiful corner of the Caribbean. “The world-class golf course we are planning will be magnificent - not only for players; it will also provide a wonderful green outlook for the people who buy the homes which overlook it.”

At Punta Perla, the three signature courses, each with their own clubhouse, will be at the heart of the resort. A Golf Academy will assist first-time golfers as well as experienced players wishing to improve their game. Traveling to Punta Perla

Upon arrival at the Dominican Republic, you will land at the picturesque thatched-roofed Punta Cana International Airport, which is 15 minutes away from Punta Perla.

About the Dominican Republic

The Dominican Republic occupies roughly two-thirds of the island of Hispaniola. The land surface area is 48,442 km2, making it the same size as Holland, Luxembourg and Northern Ireland all together. The official language of the Dominican Republic is Spanish; although English, French, and Italian are widely spoken. The current President is Dr. Leonel Fernandez, elected in 2004 for a 4-year term. The Dominican Republic has a sub-tropical climate. However, there are also "micro climates" making it a very diverse country with mountains, lakes, waterfalls, rivers.
